Gregor Schlierenzauer – Comeback?
Will the Eagle fly again? This issue is a hot topic not only in the media and ski-jumping community but also amongst the many enthusiastic fans of Gregor Schlierenzauer. After the most successful ski jumper ever and the record World Cup winner disappeared from the scene, nobody believed in a comeback on the jumps.
Start of the year Gregor Schlierenzauer cut the Four Jumps Tournament short and withdrew from the ski jumping competition. Nothing much more was heard from the most successful ‘Eagle’ of all time. In March the Stubai local had quite a lucky accident under the circumstances. After a fall while skiing in Canada, Gregor Schlierenzauer suffered a cruciate ligament injury which fortunately could be operated on. The recovery process necessitated a lengthy pause and a possible return to the ski jump seemed to get further and further away. Nevertheless, there were rumours about a comeback by the Tyrolean sports star. We know straight from the horse’s mouth: The Eagle will take to the air again!
Gregor Schlierenzauer ambassador of Seefeld 2019
Gregor Schlierenzauer appeared beaming and in peak fitness along with Elisabeth Gürtler and Fabian Hambüchen at the Sports Press Ball in Frankfurt just over a week ago. They were appearing as representatives for the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships 2019 in Seefeld. The 2019 World Championships in Seefeld is perhaps also a reason for Gregor Schlierenzauer returned to the jumps in a secret training session in Hinzenbach, Upper Austria, recently. What could be more attractive for a sportsman than to compete in a World Championships in your Tyrolean homeland?
Seefeld is ready!
Seefeld was true to the words of its chosen World Championships slogan: “Hand in Hand – let’s celebrate a Nordic ski festival” and was hard at work over the summer months on the new trails for the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships 2019. This winter it is already possible to ski on the same trails that the future world champions will use!
