Winter 2019/20: The best event highlights that you should not miss
The winter of 2019/20 is about to begin and with it some events that will make this winter a very special one. Contemplative chapel hikes in Advent, great sporting performances on cross-country skis, enchanting moments at the Snow Festival and many more events are on the programme. To make sure you don’t miss a thing, we have an overview of the best highlights for you.
Atmospheric Christmas Market in Seefeld
Delicious mulled wine, homemade “Kiachl’n”, enchanting music, gently falling snow and precious moments with the loved ones – all that is part of the Christmas season. From November 29 to January 05, the romantic Christmas Market takes place in the Seefeld pedestrian zone. The rustic huts invite you to stroll and you can find lovingly designed handicrafts and delicious, traditional food and drinks. Every Saturday and Sunday there is a children’s bakery for the little ones and they can write letters to Santa at the Angel’s Post Office. The Christmas Market in Seefeld is one of the most beautiful ones in Tyrol and is known far beyond the borders of the country.

Chapel Advent Leutasch
The Chapel Advent brings back memories of Christmas as it once was: this event is something very special. In the flickering light of the torches you walk through the snowy Leutaschtal valley to the numerous ancient and romantic chapels. Hansi and Monika Bantl who once founded the chapel hikes tell stories about the places. Various choirs and musicians also accompany the hikes. During the chapel hikes you experience the Advent season as it should be: quiet, contemplative and peaceful.

“Coppa delle Alpi” by Mille Miglia
Fans of classic cars will immediately know which event this is. The Coppa delle Alpi is probably the most beautiful race in the world: One hundred cars that were built until 1976 will compete over a distance of 1000 miles with impressive views of the mountains. On the second day of the stage, 05 December 2019, the participants will drive from Brixen in Italy to Seefeld. Here they will be able to take a break and recover for the coming stages.

“Krampus” Festival in Seefeld
According to ancient customs of the Alpine regions, the “Krampus” is considered a demonic horror figure who accompanies Saint Nicholas during Advent as an evil adversary and punishes naughty children with his birch rod. This old tradition is still alive in Seefeld and during the Advent, the Krampus Festival takes place. This year, the Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary and 20 Krampus groups come to Seefeld to show their costumes and customs on Friday. On Saturday, the procession with the Krampus demons of the Seefelder Tuifl (“devils”) and three more groups takes place as well.

The Musical Advent is the pre-Christmas highlight for all fans of Semino Rossi, Petra Frey and the world-famous opera singer Eva Lind. The Musical Advent begins with a romantic torchlight walk at the Christmas Market in Seefeld. In the following days the various concerts will take place.

Winter World Masters Games 2020
The Winter World Masters Games are the world’s largest winter sports festival for athletes over 30. More than 3,000 sportsmen – whether amateur or professional – will therefore come to Seefeld and Innsbruck in January to compete in 12 different sports. You can take part too: the age is the only criterion for participation. A cool, relaxed atmosphere, lots of fun, a fair sporting spirit, honest hospitality and impressive mountain scenery await you!

Kaiser Maximilian Lauf Seefeld – X-Country Race
It only takes three words to describe the Kaiser Maximilian Lauf: challenging, impressive, heroic. In January, the cross-country race, which is one of the VISMA Ski Classics races, takes place for the fifth time. Everything is about classic cross-country skiing: Professionals and amateurs can compete on the 60km track or 30km track in classic technique. The races take place in a dreamlike landscape in the idyllic Leutaschtal, Wildmoos and the World Cup Arena Seefeld.

Seefeld’s Snow Festival
Impressive sculptures made of snow and ice and many musical highlights let Seefeld shine in January. While the sculptures that are carved by hand inspire the visitors in the pedestrian zone, various artists create an exciting atmosphere on the stage and heat up the visitors so that only the ice sculptures really stay cold. We can already tell you one act: The “Sumpfkröten”. Another famous artist will also be on stage – maybe you can guess who it might be on this picture? Another little tip: her favourite colour is pink!

Seefeld Nordic Combined Triple
After the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships 2019, the Seefeld Nordic Combined Triple is the next sporting highlight for professional cross-country skiers in the region. The best athletes will compete for World Cup points and the overall victory of the Triple. This time, there will be a new competition mode: Friday and Saturday there will be one jump and a cross-country skiing competition over a distance of 5 km and 10 km. On Sunday, the 30 best participants will complete two jumps followed by 15 km of cross-country skiing. The athlete who wins on Sunday is the overall winner of the competition with double prize money, double World Cup points and a special bonus. Get your ticket and be there when the atmosphere in the World Cup arena in Seefeld starts to boil up again!

50th Euroloppet Ganghoferlauf
The Ganghoferlauf is the oldest cross-country race in Austria and a real cult event. This year it celebrates its 50th birthday. Anyone can take part in the races: There are 25 and 50 km tracks in classic technique and 20 and 42 km in skating technique. With the anniversary, the European Ski Marathon Championships of the Euroloppet racing series take place this year. The European Championships’ race is the 42 km skating distance which takes place on Sunday. The Ganghoferlauf is an event that cross-country fans should not miss!
